SOMEDAY: Mia Van De Loo - SINGLE REVIEW

By Maddie Malone

Have you ever planned an entire future with someone who had absolutely no idea? Mia Van de Loo has, and she has turned that exact feeling into her newest single, Someday.

The 23-year-old Nashville based singer/songwriter has built her music around honesty. From friendship breakups and belonging to love and growing up, Van de Loo is not afraid of letting listeners into parts of her life that most people would rather keep buried in an old diary.

And Someday takes that quite literally.

The track began years before its release, when Mia was sitting in her high school English class. During a poetry task, she wrote about an unrequited love and escaped into an imaginary world where the boy liked her back, they ended up together and everything just worked out.

Now at 23, Mia has taken that poem and given her younger self a voice again. There is something special about that. Instead of looking back and cringing at the way she once viewed love, she embraces it, turning those feelings into a track that captures just how intensely you can want a future that does not exist yet.

Someday does not need a huge production to make you feel something either. Delicate piano sits alongside cello throughout the track, while Mia’s soft vocals remain right at the centre. Everything feels intentionally stripped back, giving the lyrics room to tell the story.

And that simplicity fits the song perfectly.

But underneath all that hope is the reality that the person she is imagining it with is not hers.

That is where Someday gets you.

As the original poem narrows down, so does the fantasy. Eventually, Mia is left with herself and the realisation that she isn’t living the love story she’s spent all this time imagining. Yet she does notcompletely let go of it either. There is still that tiny bit of hope hanging around. Maybe not now, but someday.

It also says a lot about the direction Mia is taking as an artist. She started writing songs at just 14, later released her debut EP Open Book, studied audio production in Amsterdam, and moved to Nashville in March 2025. Rather than leaving those early songs and feelings behind as she isgrown up, she is bringing them with her

It is vulnerable, slightly naive, and ridiculously hopeful, but that is exactly why it works. Because let’s be real, most of us have imagined a whole life with someone who was barely even part of the first chapter.

Maybe it works out. Maybe it doesn’t.

Maybe someday.
